Birthday time - opportunity to celebrate!
A Birthday is a time for the child to celebrate another year older. At 3, 4, 5 and 6 years the child partakes in a ceremony with all the class.
The family are asked to bring in a photo from birth and each birthday, a Birthday cake and a present for the classroom eg an educational book..
A central candle is lit representing the SUN and the Director tells the children that this is when the child was born.
The Birthday child then takes the photo of their birth around to show each child. Next the Directress hands the child a globe and we all sing "THE EARTH TURNS AROUND THE SUN" - simple song and then the first candle is lit - the FIRST Birthday etc showing a photo, carrying the globe while we sing the song, lighting a candle etc until it is time to sing our birthday song "HAPPY BIRTHDAY WE LOVE YOU" and the "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU" song.
The child brings in a present for the school! - usually an educational book or a plant. The Birthday cake is given out after lunch.
